Elk River Library Board Meeting
April 24, 2007
Anne called the meeting to order at 6:32 PM. Anne Schroeder, Mick Stoffers, John
Dietz, Donna Martin, Mike Hangaard, Joan Allen from GRRL and Bill Maertz from the
City of Elk River were present.
Quorum was established.
Mike made a motion to accept the agenda and John seconded.
Mike moved to accept the minutes and John seconded.
Bill provided us with an update on the progress of the construction of the new library.
Bill works closely with the Construction Supervisor, who is very experienced. The
construction is up to date with the exception of the windows which could not be ordered
until their exact measurements were determined. The floors will be poured next week,
the roofis 75% fmished. The geothermal tubes are on site and the library is on track for a
gold LEED rating. John asked about the Econair heat pump and the 5 year parts and
labor warrantee and whether or not that was part of the contract. Bill responded that
Econair was providing their standard warrantee of 5 years for parts and I year for labor.
Bill brought several pictures showing the progress as well as some of the lovely views the
new library will have. Mick will check into an opportunity to tour the site next month.
Bill asked Joan about the possibility of Sunday hours for the library. Joan explained that
while GRRL would not reject the idea, it is a "maintenance of effort" issue and would
require an ongoing endowment through a foundation or some other perpetual funding
agreement. Joan has recommended an increase of hours for the library in order to
standardize library hours and make it easier for patrons. Mike asked about an increase in
insurance cost to the city, but it will not be an issue.
We appreciate Bill's updates and thank him for all his help.
John moved to accept the Treasurer's Report and Mike seconded. Mick explained that
the monies from the property sales have been credited to the library account.
Mick requested that the Board members begin to think about ideas for the library grand
opening. It could involve a single event, events by age group or possibly a guest author
event. We will discuss ideas at our May meeting on the 24th. We will be meeting at City
Hall and tour the site.
We adjourned at 7:08 PM.
