SUBJECT: Request to Purchase Carpet Cleaning
Machine
INTRODUCTION
During the past few years, the City spent approximately $1,640 per year for
cleaning the carpets at the Library, City Hall and PD.

The estimated cost for carpet cleaning of the new City Hall, Police
Department and expansion of the Library would probably double due to the
increase in space of the new city facilities and library expansion. This would
put the cost at approximately $3,000 per year for carpet cleaning.
Based on these figures, it was felt it would be more economical for the City to
purchase a carpet cleaning machine and have the cleaning people clean the
carpets.
During the past several weeks, Laurie Heinecke, Chris Zerwas, and myself
have looked at four carpet cleaners. We have received demonstrations from
these four carpet cleaning machines. Three of the machines demonstrated
were steam cleaning machines and one was a dry cleaning machine. After
contacting Kjellberg Carpets, where the carpets were purchased, it was
recommended that the City use steam cleaning only.

After consideration of the above carpet cleaning machines, it is recommended
that the City purchase the Triumph 1190 from Jiffy Jr. Products for
$1,999.99.. This machine is a demo model and has been used for
demonstrations approximately 7-10 times. The machine will include 18
months warranty for parts and service. The purchase also includes 1 gallon
of "Esteem;" 1 gallon of "Traffic Lane;" and 1 gallon of "Defoamer."
Staff is recommending the purchase ofthe Triumph at $1,999.99 over the
Aqua Clean 18, at $1,900 because ofthe following reasons:
. Lighter weight
. Ease of use including maneuverability and clean-up of machine
. Floating brush head which will eliminate any chance of motor burn-out
. More suction to assure faster dry time for carpets
. First supply of cleaning products included with purchase
