Dear Mr. Mayor:
I am unable to attend any of the meetings, therefore I am writing
my response to the proposed property tax for 1995.
I am a single parent with two daughters in college. My income is
$25,000 a year. I work other jobs just to keep up with my
payments. It is very frustrating to never get ahead because of
what the City/County is spending at the expense of taxpayers.
I was assessed with new streets and curb along Fresno street
because the City wanted to hook up sewer to Heritage Landing. We
all felt the people on Fresno shouldn't be the only residents that
had to shoulder this move. It was done anyway at our expense. Now
the park board is wanting to put a walking path right where my car
backs out of the driveway (last house on Fresno). We will have to
fight this also.
This big jump in taxes is the last straw! My taxes have gone up
every year and now this year by $138.76. You all claim there is
growth in Elk River. Then why are taxes going up if more people
can pay?? How do you expect people who have lived here all their
lives to stay in Elk River. I am ready to move because of high
taxes and our city officials not listening to the people. How
about cutting some the extreme expenses out of your budget?? At my
work we have been on a raise freeze and working harder just to keep
our jobs.
If you want Elk River to be a Maple Grove or Eden Prairie where
taxes are more, then we need to move Elk River closer to
Minneapolis so we can have the benefits of Minneapolis. What is
the City of Elk River/Sherburne County done to merit this big jump
in taxes? As I see it, you are not working for the people with
their best interests are heart but your own personal interests at
heart.
I would like these taxes reduced to where I am not feeling burdened
to live in Elk River.
