SUBJECT: CONSIDER STREET LABORER
POSITIONS
I would ask the Council's permission to advertise for the position of street
laborer. The City Council has already approved this position for October,
1994. The 1995 budget provides for hiring another laborer in March. It is
my intention to hire the first place candidate as soon as possible and the
second place candidate in March without readvertising the position. I may
ask the Council to consider one of the following options when the final
candidate is hired: 1.) hiring the number two position before March; 2.)
offering starting salaries above entry level for highly qualified applicants; or
3.) offering a prime candidate a Maintenance I position.

The above noted options mayor may not be appropriate at the time of the
final decision, but will give me a wider scope to select suitable employees to
recommend to the City Council for hiring.
