City Council is requested to approve a budget revision in the amount of $26,500 for the sewer division to
allow safety grates to be installed on all existing wet wells (25 of them) in 2007 rather than waiting for
2008.
Background/Discussion
In recent years, we have changed our policy regarding new lift station construction. We now require
safety grates on the wet wells to prohibit accidental falls into the structure when working around them.
Our most recent lift station constructed in the River Park addition has such a safety grate included with it.
In 2008, retrofitting all of the existing 25 lift stations with these safety grates was included in the sewer
division budget. Due to the safety nature of this installation, we are requesting a budget amendment of
$26,500 to install safety grates in 2007.
The sewer division received four quotes that ranged from $23,336 to $39,338.
Financial Impact
Funding would come from sewer division reserves.

Gary,
We are pleased to offer you our quotation for safety hatches for
your sanitary lift stations to be installed below existing aluminum hatch
covers to protect the safety of your operators. The following is a description
of the scope of materials and labor provided on this project.
Scope of Materials
(23) Special safety grates consisting of dual hinged aluminum grate designed
for a 300'PSF loading and will be furnished with 316 stainless steel hold
open rods, hinges and hardware, aluminum pull-open arms, a staple for a
padlock, stainless steel anchoring hardware, hatch angle supports, and a
safety orange finish. Grates do vary in dimensions for site to site and have
been measured accordingly.
(1) Lot of labor for installation of all hatches provided. and necessary relocating
of pump guide systems upper brackets and cable racks in order to complete
safe and functional grating at all specified lift stations.
(1) Lot of travel and mileage to and fromjobsites in order to complete project, along
with removal of all job related debris.
Total Price: $23.336.00 Dlus tax
