Authorization to Hire Replacement Police Officer and Advertise
CSO Position
Action Requested
Permission to hire Andrew Zabee as a police officer and advertise to fill Community Service Officer
position.
Background/Discussion
We have a vacant police officer position created by a recent resignation. Andrew Zabee was originally an
intern for our department and was later hired as a Community Service Officer, a position he has been in
since April 2006. He has performed in an exemplary manner as a CSO and recently graduated from St.
Cloud State with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice as well as having completed the police skills
training program at Alexandria. He is now eligible to be hired as a police officer.
I recommend promoting Mr. Zabee to police officer contingent on passing the medical and psychological
portions of our background process. If approved, he would start his field training process on Tuesday,
August 14, 2007.
Mr. Zabee's promoting to the police officer position would leave vacant his CSO position. We would
like to advertise to fill the CSO position as soon as possible.
Financial Impact:
These are both budgeted positions. More than adequate funds are available through the end of this fiscal
year. Mr. Zabee would begin at the starting step according to the current police union contract.
