5.4. SR 09-17-2007 REQUEST FOR ACTION To Ci Council Agenda Section Administration Meeting Date September 17, 2007 Item Number 5.4. Prepared by Bill Maertz, Parks and Recreation Director Reviewed by Lori ohnson, Ci Administrator Reviewed by Item Description Library Porch Addition Action Requested Authorization to include screened porch as part of the Elk River Library Project Background/Discussion The original concept design for the Elk River Library included a screened porch with Adirondack chairs, and a view of Lake Orono. It was cut out of the project as a cost saving measure. At the August 2007 Library Board meeting, the board voted to recommend including the screened porch. The porch addition would cost approximately $75,000. This price includes design and structural engineering fees. The term screen porch is somewhat misleading as this space would be a high quality, architecturally designed structure that would incorporate building materials similar to the new library. Jennifer Anderson Tuttle, of KKE Architects, will attend the meeting to discuss the concept. Financial Impact Approximately $75,000. The library project stated with a contingency of $125,000 which has not been spent. This would give them the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors in comfort up to six months ofthe year without having to worry about bugs. We've designed and built a beautiful facility with emphasis on the environment now let's let people enjoy that environment. It would provide us with an outdoor children's program area that's in a safe enclosed area. It would be an excellent area to provide outdoor adult programs (speakers, concerts etc.)
