The attached proclamation will formalize Elk River's participation in Minnesota Manufacturer's Week. Background/Discussion For the past several years the EDA, in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce, has recognized Elk River manufacturers annually during Minnesota Manufacturer's Week. The attached flyer highlights the recognition event to be held Tuesday, October 16, 2007. The event will include a tour of one of Elk River's newest manufacturers, Quality Label, and aluncheon/presentation from Diane Knutson who was appointed in 2003 by Governor Pawlenty as Minnesota's Manufacmxexs' Advocate. To show appreciation of Elk River's manufacturing community, the local manufacturers have been invited to attend the event and luncheon compliments of the EDA. In addition, ahalf--page, full-color "Thank You" ad will be published on the back page of the October 10"' Elk River Stax News. Financial Impact None. In 1994, she joined the Minnesota Department of Trade and Economic Development in the newly created position of Computer and Electrical Component Industry Specialist [n late 2003, she was appointed by Governor Pawlenty [o another newly created position, Minnesota's Manufacturers' Advocate -the position she still holds. ^~ V I~(ItRi~eFrA~l¢a C7tanrber'tf C,omrnerre PROCLAMATION Minnesota Manufacturer's Week October 22 -October 26, 2007 WHEREAS, The manufacturing industry is a dynamic part of Minnesota's prosperous economy, and promotion of this sector's strength, success, and high quality of life is an integral part of Minnesota's economic development strategy; and WHEREAS, Manufacturing provides high skill, high wage jobs which significantly contribute to Minnesota's high standard of living and economic vitality; and WHEREAS, Manufacturing has the largest total payroll of any business sector in Minnesota, providing $17.4 billion in 2006 wages; and WHEREAS, Manufacturing produces $34.1 billion fox the state economy and is the largest share, 1G.0 percent of our gross state product; and WHEREAS, Manufactured exports brought over $15.2 billion into the Minnesota economy in 2D06; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Stephanie Klinzing, Mayor of the City of Elk River, do hereby proclaim that the week of October 22- October 26, 2007 shall be observed as: MINNESOTA MANUFACTURER'S WEEK Passed and adopted this 8`h day of October, 2007.
