Background/Discussion The Senior Center Advisory Council is seeking the City Council's support and approval for a Senior Center fundraiser to raise funds for a baby grand piano for the new Activity Center (413 Proctor). The attached letter will be sent to the Senior Centex mailing list as well as other people and businesses that have been identified by the Advisory Council. The goal is to raise $10,000 (the cost of the piano). The Senior Center will ask for "sponsors" fox 88 keys to collect $8,800.00 ($100.00 per key). Additional fundraising will be done if necessary. The baby grand piano that will be purchased has a "player piano" feature. Background music can be played without a pianist to provide a welcoming atmosphere. We also have volunteer pianists and can bring in professional pianists for special events. Financial Impact No financial impact to the city budget, as the piano will not be purchased until the fundraising goal has been met. This fall the Elk River Senior Center is opening a second site at 413 Proctor Ave. The Elk River Senior Center is a division of Elk River Parks & Recreation. We will be converting the old library building into the new Elk River Activity Center. We are very excited to invite all active adults to participate in a variety of programs at this location. The current senior center location at 350 Evans Ave will also remain open as a satellite site. Our new location will offer more space for expanded programming and community use. We are writing to let you know about an opportunity to support. our expansion. The Senior Center has started a new project to acquire a baby grand piano for this new site. With its' "player piano" feature, this piano will create a welcoming atmosphere, providing background music without a pianist, as well as being used by individual pianists for special events. Our project, "Sponsor a Key", involves the help of individuals and businesses, such as yourself . We are seeking sponsors for our 88 piano keys*. Each piano key can be sponsored for $100 which will include your name or business name on a plaque at the new site. With your help the Elk River Activity Center will be a focal point for our community. Our goal is to provide year-round programs and services to enhance lives by creating an active healthy lifestyle for our citizens.
