SUBJECT: Ice Arena Project
Preliminary budget estimates for this project have been received from two
contractors. The Ice Arena Task Force has not been able to meet with our
construction manager in order to get additional input in analyzing the budget
estimates. The figures that have been received are higher than expected.
The timing of this project is becoming critical in order to get a (mostly) full
skating season in next winter. Organizations are making arrangements for
ice time in March and April for next season and it is unlikely that we will get
commitments for ice time until we have a project moving forward. As the
timing is becoming a critical issue, the Council should be aware that we may
• need a special meeting to present the budget estimates and request Council
action to proceed. At this time, until further analysis is completed, staff and
the Task Force Chair are recommending no Council action.
