8.3.SR 03-06-1995'~`-( ~~ ITEM 8.3. ( MEMORANDUM ty of ~~ l~ ~ TO: Mayor & City Council River FROM: Pat Klaers, City Ad in t for DATE: March 6,1995 SUBJECT: Chamber of Commerce -State of the City Address Jackie Schuelein, Executive Vice President of the Elk River Area Chamber of Commerce, will be present at this meeting to discuss with the City Council the proposed 1995 State of the City meeting. A date of Tuesday, March 21, 1995, is being suggested for the City Council (and EDA) to address the Chamber members on "the State of the City". We have not done a Chamber of Commerce State of the City Program for a few years and the Chamber feels that it is once again time to be updated by City officials on current events. Jackie may be offering some suggestions to the City Council on a theme for this State of the City Address. I have mentioned to her that it is our ten year anniversary of being a Star City and economic development (along with development in general) is • always an appropriate topic to discuss with Chamber members. Councilmembers should give some thought to this State of the City date and to possible topics on themes in order to provide Jackie with some feedback on her request. At the 2/27 meeting, some Councilmembers indicated their preference for topics to present at the State of the City meeting. The Mayor indicated that he would talk about the Surface Water Management and Transportation Plan as two or our long range planning issues; Councilmember Dietz indicated he would talk about the Library project; Councilmember Holmgren indicated he would talk about park and recreation activities; and Councilmember Farber indicated that either he or EDA member Gongoll would talk about the proposed ice arena project. If we could get more information on what is planned to be talked about at this meeting it would be nice. If not, we could talk about this during the 3/13 EDA meeting as Jeff, Pat and Tom will also be making presentations at the State of the City meeting. The Council should note that the only two staff members that will be making presentations are Bill Rubin and myself. lJ 13065 Orono Parkway • P.O. We also include the EDA and HRA members in this invitation, along with Pat Klaers, Bill Rubin and Steve Ach. In the past, the Chamber has hosted a "State of the City" meeting every year. However, the last one was in January 1993. With the growth and changes that have occurred since that time, we know you'll have a lot of information to share with us centering around economic development. We would also celebrate Elk River's 10th anniversary as a Minnesota Star City and recent designation as an All Star City. ~. suggestions for topics might be updates on residential, industrial and commercial development, the new business park/West Hwy. 10, Industrial/McChesney Park, central business district, Hwy. 169/Main .
