SUBJECT: Clothing Allowance
During the budget process last year there was some discussion regarding the
clerical clothing allowance policy. Ultimately, the council decided to continue
the policy that has been in place. This actually is a clothing reimbursement
policy.
During the recent discussions on the proposed pay plan, the City Council
indicated its desire to eliminate the clothing allowance and take this
adjustment into consideration when it approves new pay ranges for all of the
city staff, including the clerical staff. On Apri125, 1995, the City Council
unanimously approved a new city pay plan. However, I neglected to point out
• that the 1996 clothing allowance provision was not repealed in any of the
motions that were approved by the council.
Recommendation
I recommend that the City Council eliminate the clerical clothing allowance
policy beginning in 1996.
