Introduction
The Elk River Fire Department is requesting Council approval to advertise for two paid on-call firefighter
openings. One firefighter position has remained unfilled after a past firefighter candidate was unable to
complete the selection process and Firefighter Brent Richter resigned due to health reasons after five
years of service with the Fire Department. I am requesting Council approval to begin the process of
finding replacement firefighters.
Discussion
I anticipate the hiring process of the new firefighters to take approximately three months with the
screening of applications, interviewing of potential applicants, firefighter physical, stress test, and
background check. I will return to a future Council meeting with the name of the successful candidates.
Financial Impact
Minimum requirements of Firefighter 1 and First Responder training - $2,500.00

It is requested that the Mayor and City Council giant authorization to advertise fox two paid on-call
firefighters with the Elk River Fire Department.
