Council motion to approve a tobacco license for Ali's Smoke Shop, Inc., 19112 Freeport Street,
to Ah Sadeq valid until December 31, 2008.
2. Council direction on the revocation hearing of the tobacco license for Sabry Wazwaz. Staff would
recommend the city discontinue with this process if the license for Ali is approved.
Background/Discussion
On December 17 the City Council waived the tobacco moratorium for Ali Sadeq so he could apply for a
tobacco license for the smoke shop located on Freeport Street.
The Council further directed staff to conduct a background investigation on Mr. Sadeq and to review
with the U.S. Attorney's office if they had any concerns with the license transfer. Mr. Sadeq had a clear
background check. Police Chief Beahen received a response from the U.S. Attorney's office which states
they would not support or oppose any position on this matter.
Staff recommends approving the tobacco license to Mr. Sadeq as there would be no legal grounds to deny
him.
