Authorization to Hire Recreation Manager
Background/Discussion
City Council authorized staff to advertise the recreation manager position in October of 2007. Staff is
requesting authorization to hire Mr. Steve Benoit as recreation manager with a start date of March 24,
2008. Mr. Benoit is an Otsego resident and is currently the recreation manager in Shoreview, Minnesota.
Mr. Benoit has 13 years experience in municipal parks and recreation. He has a Bachelors Degree in
recreation and is currently enrolled in a graduate program in public administration. Prior to working in
municipal parks and recreation Mr. Benoit was the program director for the Ridgedale YMCA. This
position is a grade level 10 and staff is recommending a starting salary of step C with a step increase after
6 months pending satisfactory performance review.
Financial Impact
Starting salary of $65,644
