Council approve request to purchase one Dodge Nitro SXT 4x4 SUV from Elk River Ford through state
contract for use by Police Department in the amount of $19,982 including sales tax.
Background/Discussion
The requested purchase is within the routine seven year replacement cycle for Police Department
community service officer vehicles. The purchase will replace a 2001 Chevy S-10 pickup. The four wheel
drive and four door configuration of the Dodge Nitro also facilitates use of the vehicle by police officers
during inclement weather or for off road access. The Police Department has historically equipped the
CSO unit with 4x4 vehicles for this purpose.
Financial Impact
Funds have been designated for this purchase in 2008 from the 2006 designated fund balance in the
amount of $25,000 which includes vehicle purchase, set up, graphics and miscellaneous expenses
associated with squad replacement.
