Rgqucsting Council approval fox attending the 2008 Fire Rescue International in Denver, Colorado.
Background/Discussion
I am requesting Council approval to attend the 2008 International Association of Fire Chiefs Fire Rescue
International in Denver, Colorado from August 13, 2008 through August 17, 2008. The International
Association of Fite Chiefs hosts annually a series of pre-conference workshops, conference symposiums,
education keynote speakers, fire rescue international general sessions, and a large expo featuring vendors
and equipment covering such things as apparatus, firefighter safety, training and education, and
technology updates.
There axe many leadership sessions and educational opportunities featured each day from Wednesday,
August 13 through Saturday, August 16. I have included a sampling of training and education sessions as
an attachment. 'The International Association of Fixe Chiefs not only provides education sessions that
axe designed to provide skills, knowledge, and expertise to tackle any situation we may face, but also the
opportunity to view the latest products and innovations in the fire sen=ice. This years leadership
symposium offers many opportunities on leadership, mentoxship, ethical challenges in the 21" century=
and a featured speaker I{chin Cochran, City of Atlanta Fire Chief, presenting "All fox One, One fox All".
Financial Impact
$ 1,500.00 is included as part of the 2008 training budget fox the Fixe Department. The $1,500 includes
airfare, room, meals, and registration.
