Background/Discussion
At the March 10 meeting, Council discussed Library hours and the process used by Great River Regional
Library (GRRL) to determine them. At that time Councilmember Zerwas noted that the Library Board
would be requesting support from the City Council in asking GRRL to expand the Elk River Public
Library hours. Councilmembex Zerwas requested fox staff to draft a resolution of support.
This item should be removed from the Consent agenda if the Council would like to discuss it further.

RESOLUTION 08-
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ELK RIVER
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE EXPANSION OF HOURS FOR THE
ELK RIVER PUBLIC LIBRARY
WHEREAS, the City of Elk River (City) thanks the Great River Regional Library Board and
the Sherburne County Commission fox their continual support of the Elk River Public
Library (Library); and
WHEREAS, the City has invested continual support in the Library through construction
of a new Library facility in order to better service area patrons in a growing community; and
WHEREAS, circulation of material accounts for over five percent of the Library's yearly
circulation between 10:00 a.m. and noon during the four days they are currently open by
10:00 a.m.; and
WHEREAS, patrons are requesting more hours with a consistent schedule and the current
Library hours are inconsistent and confusing:

And the City is requesting more consistent hours with an additional three hours per week in
the Library's hours of operation:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Elk River City Council supports
the expansion of hours for the Elk River Public Library.
