Terry Zajac, Lead Building Inspector for the City of Elk River, and I have been working with Phil Hals, Street/Park Superintendent, in reference to the fzre protection system for the public works building. Terry Zajac received quotations for the completion of the project and the following quotes were submitted: Brothers Fire Protection Company Summit Fire Protection $21,940 $30,800 Each of the bidders were supplied with the specifications for completion of the fire protection system for the public works building. Terry Zajac and I have reviewed the quotations from both Brothers Fire Protection and Summit Fire Protection and we agree the quotations will complete the project as specified. Phil Hals is applying for a safety grant through the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry for up to $10,000 towards the cost of the sprinkler system. Action Requested At this time, I am requesting Mayor and City Council approval for the quotation of Brothers Fire Protection ($21,940) to complete the fire protection system for the public works building. If the safety grant is received the cost to the city would decrease, depending on the amount of grant money received. The funding source for this project is the streets reserve. Our proposal includes installing a new NFPA 13 wet-pipe automatic fire sprinkler system throughout the new building. Sprinklers in ceiling area to be chrome pendent semi recessed type heads with brass upright in unfinished areas. All work to be performed during regular working hours between 7:00 AM - 4:30 PM., Monday through Friday. Design is based on Light & Ordinary Hazard Occupancy as defined by NFPA #13, which will be submitted to the City of Elk River. All storage to be limited to 12'-0" in height. Brothers Fire Protection Co. will provide hangers for support of our piping in accordance ~vith NFPA #I 3, which must support the weight of the pipe, water inside the pipe plus a minimum of 250 pounds at the point of hanging. Structural integrity and stability shall be the responsibility and liability of the building owner. Our proposed price for the above is $ 21,940.00 Items not included: 1. Painting of any pipe or related material. 2. Lights, water, heat and power during construction. 3. Bonds. 4. Adequate water supply into building with flanged opening 1 '-0" above floor. 5. Summit Fire Protection proposes to provide material and labor to install one wet pipe system of automatic sprinklers designed for ordinary hazard group 2 occupancy throughout the building, except light hazard in the office areas, as per plans and the following 1. Install brass upright sprinklers at the roof & below the mezzanine areas without dropped ceilings. 2. Install chrome pendent sprinklers in the areas with dropped ceilings. 3. Install 36 sidewall sprinklers beneath the overhead garage doors (4 beneath each 14'x 16' door), & 2 beneath smaller doors. 4. Others to provide an 8" water service into the comer of the service area. 5. Others to provide electric wiring for the alarms. We propose to perform the above work for the sum of THIRTY THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED and NO/100 DOLLARS ($30,800.00). This quoted price shall remain in effect for 30 days. Our proposal is based upon using either an unaltered AIA Document #A401, Standard Form of Agreement Between Contractor and Subcontractor, or the Minnesota AGC Standard Subcontract Agreement with the standard NECA/Mechanical Contractors Builder's Subcontract Agreement Rider "A" attached or this proposal form as the contract between our companies.
