SUBJECT: Addition of Firefighters
The Elk River Fire Department is requesting Council approval to advertise for the addition of
paid-on-call fzrefighters due to the resignations of two members.
With the anticipated opening of Station 2 in the Fall of 2003, we will be expanding our roster
from the current 35 to 40 members. This means that the Fire Department will potentially be
adding up to 8 new fzrefighters. Approximately 12-15 of the fzrefighters will be at Station Two
and approximately 25-28 at Station One.
With the approval of the City Council to add new fzrefighters to the department, we will start
the process of advertising for the positions of paid-on-call fzrefighters.
I anticipate the process of hiring new fzrefighters to take approximately three months with the
screening of applications, interviewing potential applicants, returning to the Council with the
names of the potential candidates, fzrefighters physicals and stress tests. I will be in
attendance at the August 26, 2002, Council meeting to answer any questions in reference to
the addition of f~refighter candidates to the Elk River Fire Department. If you have any
