3.4. SR 04-22-2002MEMORANDUM
TO:
Mayor & City Council
FROM:
Phil Hals, Street/Park Superintend~I-
DATE:
April 16, 2002
SUBJECT: Equipment Purchases
Item # 3.4.
On January 28, 2002, the City Council approved the purchase of an asphalt paving
trailer, a pick-up truck, and a tandem axle dump truck with snow plowing equipment.
The memo from the January, 24, 2002 memo indicated:
$137,000.00
23,600.00
22,400.00
$183,000.00
for the truck
for the patch trailer
for the pick-up truck
Total, including sales tax
The 2002 budget identifies $186,500 in equipment certificates for the purchase of those
3 items. The patching trailer and pick-up truck have been ordered for the prices
indicated above, but the truck has been another story.
The Iow bidder, Sterling Trucks, offers four cab configurations which affect wheel base
length affecting the turning radius. Our first choice was a set back front axle model with
the shortest wheel base, but as I fine tune the spec, I found that the model with the
horsepower we need combined with an automatic transmission and a front frame
extension would not be available with the adequate radiator. The next shortest
wheelbase model has an engine compartment cover that encroaches into the cab area
which requires an upscale hydraulic control system.
To make a long story sho~ I need to revise the truck and equipment bid price upward
to $140,500 from my January 28th estimate of $137,000. My apologies for the mistaken
estimate.
Requested Action:
City Council authorize spending additional equipment certificate funds up to the original
budget amount of $186,500 for the purchase of a dump truck, asphalt patching trailer,
and a pick-up truck.
