SUBJECT: Resolution Designating Polling Places
REOUEST
Approve polling places for the Primaxy and General Elections in 2002. The request is
specifically being made to approve polling places for the city's new precinct plan which calls
for eight polling places, one per precinct.
State Law requires the Council to designate polling places by Resolution. State law also
requires polling places to be located within the boundaries of the precinct or within 3,000
feet of one of those boundaries.
Staff is proposing the following locations for polling places. The polling locations are
referenced on the attached map.

(Other option for 4B) - Guardian Angels Senior Center - 350 Evans
St. Andrew's Church is located just outside of the Precinct 4B boundary line. Guardian
Angels Senior Center is located in the boundary line of Precinct 4B. Both locations would
work for a polling place. The one drawback of the Senior Center is parking. The parking lot
is insufficient to handle the number of voters. Voters could however, park on the street. St.
Andrew's Church has sufficient parking in the parking lot. Voting would take place in the
lobby of the church. The only drawback with the church is that there would be a 7 a.m. mass
going on during election.
All Elk River voters will be notified by mail of their voting precinct and polling location
prior to the Primary Election.
ACTION REQUESTED
The Council must adopt the 8 polling locations by resolution. The attached resolution
reflects St. Andrews as the polling location for Precinct 4B. If it is a council decision to have
the Senior Center as the polling location for Precinct 4B, the attached resolution will be
amended.

A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING POLLING PLACES FOR THE
CITYOF ELK RIVER
WHEREAS,
Minnesota Statutes 204B. 16 requires the city council to
designate polling places by resolution.
WHEREAS,
following the redistricting process, and due to the increase in
population, the City has split its four wards into 8 voting
precincts.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council designate
the following polling places for the City of Elk River voters.
