TO: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: Mayor and City Council Lori Johnson, Finance Director April 8, 2002 Consider Hiring IT Coordinator Assistant Police Chief Jeff Beahen and I interviewed the top six applicants for the Information Technology Coordinator position. Each of these candidates met the minimum job requirements, which include having a Bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of LAN administration experience. Many of the candidates interviewed had over ten years of LAN administration experience. We are recommending that the City Council consider hiring Robert Pearson to fill this position. Mr. Pearson is available to start within the next two weeks. Staff and Mr. Pearson have agreed upon the following employment terms pending approval by the City Council: · Pay - Starting pay at step C, pay grade 4E ($51,731.65) with an increased to step D upon successful completion of a six-month orientation period (no additional cost of living increase will be given on January 1, 2003). · Sick Leave - Begin employment with 12 days of sick leave on the books with no additional sick leave to be earned during the first year of employment. · Vacation - Begin employment with two weeks of vacation leave on the books and accrue based on vacation schedule. Action Requested The City Council is asked to take action on two items: 1) Consider the Personnel Committee's recommendation to place the Information Technology Coordinator position at pay grade 4E and 2) Consider hiring Bob Pearson as Information Technology Coordinator with the terms as noted above. TO: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: MEMORANDUM Mayor and City Council Personnel Committee Sandy Peine Dave Potvin Bruce West Lori Johnson April 5, 2002 Consider Personnel Committee Recommendation The Personnel Committee has reviewed the new Information Technology Coordinator position for placement in the City's pay plan. The Committee used the IT Coordinator position description and data from comparable positions in other cities in its review. The Committee also acknowledged that this position would evolve as other employees are added to the department and as more management responsibilities are added. Committee Recommendation - Place Information Technology Coordinator in pay grade 4E and have the new IT Coordinator complete a job analysis questionnaire within one year of hire to determine a job point value based on actual duties of the position. Action Requested The Council is asked to approve the IT Coordinator pay range as stated above.
