Attachments · Application, Arthur Jackett · Application, Peter Lemke · Application, Harold Morphew · Application, Leo Offerman · Location Map, Current Commisisoners and Applicants Request The City Council is asked to interview four applicants to fill two vacancies on the Planning Commission. Commissioner Tom Mesich (term expires 2/28/04) resigned from the Planning Commission, as he moved to Burns Township, and Commissioner Michael Baker (term expires 2/28/03) recently tendered his resignation due to a change in his employment status. Analysis Four applicants have applied for the two vacant positions. Arthur Jackett, a 1.6-year retired resident of the City, has applied. Mr. Jackett is a retired civil engineer and has an interest in participating in commun,ty activities. Mr. Peter Lemke, a 12-year resident of the City, has also applied. He is a civil engineer and could bring experience in transportation and planning to the Commission. He is also interested in participating in community activities. Harold Morphew has also applied to be on the Commission. A 12-year resident of the City, Mr. Morphew is a senior mechanical designer at MTS Systems and is interested in learning how the City operates. He is interested in the long-term growth of the City. Recommendation Staff recommends that the City Council interview the four applicants and select two to serve on the Planning Commission. My work as a Civil Engineer has involved me in many aspects of planning and would help bring a transportation, as well as a citizen's point of view to Elk River City planning. I feel it is very important for citizens to get involved in government in whatever capacity they can contribute. I beheve I will be able to contribute to planning long term and have an understanding of the future imphcations of today's decisions. I beheve this is a strength [ can bring to the Commission. Lastly I feel this would be a learning experience for me. These reasons illustrate why I want to become involved with the Elk River Planning Commission and the future planning and development of the city of Elk River.
