Consider Hiring Douglas Wellner as a Building Inspector
Staff reviewed the applications previously received for the position of Building Inspector
and interviewed five candidates. We are recommending that the city hire Douglas
Wellner to fill this position.
Mr. Wellner has completed all of the Building Inspection Technology courses offered at
North Hennepin Community College. He has worked as an intern for the City of Ham Lake
Building Department, where he was highly recommended.
Although Mr. Wellner's has never worked specifically in a construction trade, he has worked
~n estimating construction projects and the sale of construction materials for numerous
years. Staff believes he has learned his way around construction and has developed good
people skills through this experience.
Staff recommends the city hire Douglas Wellner for the position of Building
Inspector with the following stipulations:
Starting date April 22, 2002.
Pay grade 13, step A, which is $18.00/hour.
Orientation period ends October 22, 2002.
That he receives his Building Official Limited Certification within one year after the
date of hiring (by April 22, 2003) and full Building Official Certification within after
Limited Certification.
Cost of living increase in January 2003.
First step increase will be given when he receives his limited certification and his next
step increase after that will be July of 2004 (pending a satisfactory performance
reviews).
