3.7. SR 01-14-2002TO: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: *ITEM 3.7.* MEMORANDUM Mayor and City Council Bruce A. West, Fire Chief January 14, 2002 Request by Fire Inspector to Attend Out of State Seminar I am requesting Council approval for Fire Inspector Cliff Anderson to attend an out of state seminar. The out of state seminar is the Colorado Chapter Educational Institute seminar that has been attended by numerous Elk River building inspectors in years past. The reputation of the Colorado Chapter of the ICBO and its educational seminar is an excellent educational opportunity. Not only is this an opportunity for building inspectors but the full week of educational opportunities offers fire code educational classes. In July 2002 it is anticipated that the state of Minnesota will be adopting a new International Fire Code along with an International Building Code. The 2002 Colorado seminar has two full days devoted to the International Fire Code, which will be adopted nationally as well as in Minnesota. Another area that our fire inspection department will become increasingly involved in is the fire sprinkler plans review and certification. Two full day classes are devoted to fire sprinkler systems and smoke and fire dampers. Finally, a day is devoted to the testing and approval of water based protection systems. The funding to send the fire inspector to the Colorado ICBO education seminar is a 2002 budgeted item. The total cost for this out of state educational opportunity is $1,000. The cost includes tuition, room, travel, and meals. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at the Elk River Fire Department, (763) 441-4919. Action Requested The City Council is asked to approve sending Fire Inspector Cliff Anderson to the ICBO seminar in Colorado.
