Subject: Arena Update
The start of the regular skating season is on its way and it is time to provide you with an
update on the happenings of the Arena.
The new bleachers are completed and are a big hit with all the fans. The seating
arrangement has the home spectators using them during the high school games. When
we do 'not anticipate large crowds, we have been keeping the eastside bleachers closed to
cut down on the daily cleaning of the bleachers.
We are in the process of updating the west side bleachers in the Olympic rink so that they
will comply with the new bleacher laws that go into effect January 1, 2002. This consists
of removing the horizontal railings and installing vertical railings and closing gaps
between the planks that are over 4 inches.
As recommended by the Commission at the April meeting, the Bleachers along the south
end of the Barn have been removed. A decision as to the future of this area will need to
be discussed at the next Commission meeting. Elk River Youth Hockey may have an
interest in expanding their office space as well as increasing their storage area. The
Arena is also in need of extra storage space as well as expanding office areas. Anoka
Arena has an area like ours that's about the same size. In this area they have two office
areas, a meeting area and an enclosed viewing area that over looks the rink. A project
like this could be another joint effort between the users of such an area.
The 2001 budget is winding down and the numbers look good. Over all expenditures are
close to what was budgeted, while revenues should meet or exceed what was projected.
The Elk River / Rogers V.F.W. Post 5518, has generously donated $5,000.00 for an
outdoor advertising sign. I would like to place the sign as close to the drive where our
customers enter and exit the Arena or it may have to be placed west of the parking lot
guard shack. The sign would be use to advertise the events at the Arena from Hockey
games to the trade shows held at the Arena. Logistics still need to be worked out
between the School District and the Arena, and the City Council will need to approve the
project before it will be able to proceed.
The Arena will be hosting a Skate with Santa Opening Skating session. This will be a
free event to the public; the Arena will be accepting non-perishable food items that will
be given to CAER. The Event will be held Sunday December 23rd from 12:00 - 2:00pm
with free Apple cider and cookies available along with a small gift for all children.
For your convenience I have included a copy of the Boys and Girls high school game
schedule.
If you have any further questions regarding the Arena, please do not hesitate to call.
