NCDA Update
A few months ago a commuter rail demonstration was planned to take place but was
unfortunately canceled due to circumstances beyond the control of the Northstar Corridor
Development Authority (NCDA). This commuter rail demonstration has been rescheduled
to Monday, January 28, 2002. Attached for you review is the itinerary and related
information for this event. Councilmembers that are interested in attending should advise
staff ASAP so that reservations can be made. The train will be stopping and departing at the
Elk River depot site throughout the day and the city will be providing security and
parking/traffic control for the event.

The planned commuter rail demonstration will take place on January 28, 2002. A
few months ago, we had to cancel our rail demonstration due to circumstances
beyond our control. This is the rescheduling of that event.
Northstar supporters and opinion leaders will be able to take the train from
Minneapolis to St. Cloud and back on a full commuter rail train set in the
morning. Please note that the train will pause at each of the proposed station
sites to show the public where they are located.
Legislators are invited to ride the train from Minneapolis to Elk River and back
later in the day. I encourage you to attend this event in the afternoon. For
the Northstar Commuter Rail Project to obtain federal funding for approximately
50% of construction costs, state funding must be secured in the 2002 legislative
session. NCDA members need to communicate the importance of receiving full
funding this session. We will have a tremendous opportunity to speak directly
with state legislators and let them know how important Northstar is to our cnrridnr
and your community.
