I live immediatley south of City Hall on Fresno Street. Is this something the citizens in the area will have a voice about?? Also is this proposal something the community is going to vote on being it affects our taxes?? It looks like according to the newspaper - it is already decided upon. I don't think the Safety Facility should be built where you are planning it - adding more traffic, fire trucks, police cars, noise etc. The sirens we hear many times as they pull out of the driveway which was not suppose to happen when they built the police station in that location. This was a residential area for all the years I have lived in Elk River over 40 some years, until the City Hall was given the land. This department should be in the center of the City of Elk River - not in residential areas. My question is: Is this facility really necessary?? My taxes just keep going up and up. After all the assessments I have had now this pending. Many people have told me they can't even afford to live in Elk River. Have we become an Edina?? It is really disheartening to live here all my life and see what is happening to our quaint small town atmosphere. Yes, I enjoy some shopping opportunities but not when it takes more taxes to support this city. With all the businesses - our taxes should be less - but the city just keeps spending more of our money. How can you expect us to support all this spending?? Most of us can't - as you could see from the school referendum. In these economic times - there should be a limit on spending. Please advise. Thank you.
