SUBJECT: YMCA Update
Item 4.5.
The last YMCA update took place at the January 22, 2002 City Council Meeting. Since that
date, the YMCA Committee has had a tour of three local YMCA facilities (the new facility in
Coon Rapids, the Minneapolis facility, and the Northwest facility in New Hope), and most
recendy on February 21, 2002, had another Committee monthly meeting in order to further
strategize an overall "game plan" for the development of a YMCA facility in Elk River. Most
of the February 21, 2002, meeting concentrated on the work of the subcommittees (i.e.
programming, marketing/promotions, etc.).
Mayor K3inzing has been attending these meetings, as has Finance Director, Lori Johnson,
and myself as staff representatives, and either the Mayor or I will be able to provide the
Council with an update of YMCA activities at the February 25, 2002 Council Meeting.
