At the city of Becker's request, a second public open house meeting is scheduled for Wednesday,
January 24, 2001, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Becker City Hall.
The open house was requested to seek more localized input regarding the transportation issues facing
the city of Becker. The open house will be in the same format as the one held in Big Lake in August
2000, recycling some of the same graphics and displays. You are all invited to attend. Attached is
a news release providing additional details pertaining to the meeting.
A local collaborative task force will be established following the open house to consider the public
input received. Membership on the task force will be balanced to represent all transportation
interests in the community. The task force will be responsible for developing a community vision
for TH 10 and First Street, as well as a plan for safe, reasonable access along TH 10 through the
community. Hopefully, the task force can wrap up its activities during the month of February.
Within the next few weeks the district will be preparing GIS maps depicting the recommendations
proposed by the sub-corridor committees. I will send these out to the appropriate jurisdictions for
their review and comment. I plan to reconvene the committee sometime in March where the full
membership will be afforded the opportunity to review and comment on the recommendations from
sub-corridor committees in the context of developing an access management plan for the complete
corridor.

of the study.

U.S. Highway 10 study
open house January 24
ST. CLOUD, MI'/-- The Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) is holding
a public open house on Wednesday, January 24, 2001, to share information and gather input
from attendees regarding a 24 mile Highway 10 Corridor Study underway in Sherburne County.
The open house will take place at the Becker City Hall, 12060 Sherburne Avenue,
Becker, M1N' from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. Those planning to attend may visit any time during this
time frame.
This is the second public opportunity of its kind to be conducted for the study, and the
first to be held in Becker. An earlier meeting was held in Big Lake in August 2000.
Boundaries for the Highway 10 Corridor Study extend from the Anoka/Sherburne County
line in Elk River west to the junction of Minnesota Highway 25 west of the city of Becket.
A local collaborative task force is expected to convene in the weeks following the open
house to consider the comments received from this meeting and to work with Mn/DOT staff and
study committee members to develop a plan for safe access on and off Highway 10 in the city of
Becket.
The open house will feature displays showing historical and projected traffic volumes,
current access locations, various crash data, projected growth along the corridor, and other
transportation related information. No formal presentation is planned, but Mn/DOT personnel
will be on hand to explain and discuss any aspect of the study.

Residents, business owners and operators, public officials, and other interested parties are
encouraged to attend and participate in this public activity.
Expected outcomes from the study include: planning level concepts for access
management, possible highway improvement projects, proposals and plans for future
intersections and/or interchanges, and potential frontage/backage road sections.

Committee sponsored by Operation ER. We are in the process of identifying current
efforts and projects in our community, and we plan to explore possible
collaborations/partnerships, identify how a community center can meet the greatest
needs of our changing community and establish a broad foundation of community
support for a center.
Our immediate goal is to establish a committee that reflects a variety of Elk
River community interests and needs. We are interested in your input and hope
you will be able to attend our next meeting.
