City of
Memorandum
River
TO:
FROM:
MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
STEPHEN ROHLF, BUILDING AND
ZONING ADMINISTRATOR
DATE:
MARCH 12, 2001
SUBJECT:
CONSIDER RE-ESTABLISHING
BUILDING INSPECTOR POSITION TO
FULL TIME STATUS
At their April 19, 1999 meeting, the Elk River City Council approved a Seasonal
Building Inspector position. The Building and Zoning Department indicated that they
felt this position would need to become full time at some future point, but that they try to
get by with seasonal inspector as long as workload permitted.
The Elk River Area School District is proposing 30 million dollars worth of construction
in Elk River during 2001 alone and over 54 million dollars worth in the next two years.
Combined with booming commercial construction, the adoption of the new State Energy
Code, and the approval of major residential plats, additional building inspection time is
needed to keep our level of service from suffering.
Currently, the city budget has funding for Seasonal Building Inspector position for ¼ of
the year. The Building and Zoning Department is requesting that this position be made
full time. If approved by the Council, staff will advertise this position immediately.
