Action Requested
Staff is seeking direction on the landscaping plan for Orono Parkway medians.
Background/Discussion
Council requested that staff develop alternatives for improving the appearance of Orono Parkway.
Features from these options can be added or eliminated if so desired.
Foul alternatives:
7 . Leave the prairie plantings in place and install high quality interpretive signage to educate public
about native plantings.
2. Landscape four of the median ends with formal plantings of trees and perennial flowers. This
option leaves the native plantings in the medians while creating a formal look at the Ciry Hall
entry and east and west ends of the parkway. This includes an option to have a sandblasted
boulder on the east and west ends.
3. Remove native plantings and replace with sod, irrigation and trees spaced every 40 feet.
4. Remove native plantings and replace with salt tolerant, low growing shrubs, wood mulch and
trees space every 40 feet.
Financial Impact
Construction Cost Estimates
1. $0,000
2. $27,000
3. $92,000
4. $102,000
