Request to Hire Park Planner/Planner
Request
Staff requests approval to hire a Park Planner/Planner in the Planning Department. This
position has been vacant since December 2000. Steve Wensman vacated this position to accept
a job in the private sector.
Background
Interviews for the position were conducted during the week of February 19, 2001. Four
qualified candidates were interviewed. Following the interviews, staff is proposing to hire
Chris Leeseberg for the position. Chris has a degree in Architecture with a minor in
Environmental Design. He is currently working for a design-build firm in St. Cloud. Chris
previously worked for the City in the Street/Park Department. We feel that his skills are well
suited to this position.
A background check has been completed.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that Chris Leeseberg be hired to fill the Park Planner/Planner position
effective April 9, 2001. This will be an exempt position with a starting salary of $40,500 per
year. During his six month probationary period, we will have the time spent analysis
completed to determine where in the pay plan this position will best fit. We suggest a cost of
living increase January 2002, with a step increase in July 2002.
