SUBJECT: Transportation Plan
At the last joint meeting between the School Board and the City Council,
discussion took place regarding transportation routes through the City.
Since that time the City has been working on its long range transportation
plan and the concept of an east/west corridor has generated a lot of recent
newspaper print and public participation at the Comprehensive Plan
Committee meetings.
City Engineer Terry Maurer will be in attendance at this joint meeting and
will be prepared to review some of the east/west corridor options that are
• currently being evaluated. The corridor plan also includes a bridge over the
Elk River somewhere near our western city limits. This bridge is needed to
ensure adequate access for emergency vehicles to the part of the City and the
County that lies directly north of the Elk River along our western boundary.
In addition to a review of our long range transportation plan, the City
Engineer should also be able to provide some update on the status of the
requested improvements to County Road 1. At this time, it looks like the
County is prepared to move forward with an improvement project for County
Road 1, but we are still not certain as to the exact scope of this project or the
timing of the project. However, in general, we feel that it is going to be an
urban design of some type and is going to be constructed somewhere near the
end of 1995 and in 1996.
