Police Department Subjeet: TOBACCO COMPLIANCE CHECKS
This is to inform the City Council that the Elk River Police
Department and the Sherburne County Public Health Department
conducted a tobacco compliance check. This compliance check was
mandated by the State of Minnesota.
With the assistance of several juveniles, who lived in other
areas of Sherburne County, all licensed businesses in Elk River
were contacted to see if they would sell tobacco products to
minors.
Of the twenty (20) businesses contacted, twelve (12) businesses
denied the sale of tobacco products to minors and eight (8) sold
tobacco products to minors.
We sent a letter to all businesses, who denied the sale to
minors, congratulating them on their efforts. For those that
were not in compliance and sold tobacco products to minors, we
advised them of the illegal sale and put them on notice for this
violation. They were also informed that further compliance
• checks would be conducted and those establishments that didn't
comply could face criminal charges.
If you have any questions or comments in regards to this
compliance check, please give me a call.
