SUBJECT: Orono Parkway Medians
Staff presented four alternatives fox landscaping the Orono Parkway medians at the May 5,
2008 City Council meeting. Attached please find the action requested memorandum from
that meeting. Staff will be present to answer any questions and~ox review the alternatives.

Staff is seeking direction on the landscaping plan fox Orono Parkway medians.
Background/Discussion
Council requested that staff develop alternatives fox improving the appearance of Orono Parkway.
Features from these options can be added ox eliminated if so desired.
Pour alternatives:
1. Leave the prairie plantings in place and install high quality interpretive signage to educate public
about native plantings.
2. Landscape four of the median ends with formal plantings of trees and perennial flowers. This
option leaves the native plantings in the medians while creating a formal look at the City Hall
entry and east and west ends of the parkway. This includes an option to have a sandblasted
boulder on the east and west ends.
3. Remove native plantings and replace with sod, irrigation and trees spaced every 40 feet.
4. Remove native plantings and replace with salt tolerant, low growing shrubs, wood mulch and
trees space every 40 feet.
