I have been asked 6p the'_1lothers Against llxunk Driver's (Ibf ADD) and the National Highway Traffic
Safety Admuiistration (NH'I'S:~) to represent 11~Iinnesota at "A Non-Checkpoint State Summit', f une 10
and 11, 7008 in ~~rfington, 1'esas. Elk River was chosen as we are a leader in Safe and Sober grant writing
and project management Tn addition, Sherburne Countc is in the top thirteen counties fox DWI related
accident injuries and deaths.
Background/Discussion
tiL~DD and NHTSrl are hosting a summit for the twelve states that arc prohibited by the courts from
conducting DWI checkpoints, in hopes that alternatives can be identified for these states to help reduce
the number of impaired drivers on our roadways. Icy coincidence, these twehre states have the highest
number of DLUI related injuries and deaths each ye<u. The conference starts at 1:00 pm on the 10`s, and
ends at '1:OOpm on the 1 T'~'. I would be gone fiom 7:00 atn on the 10`x', rehn Wing at 8:00 pm on the 1'1"'
Financial Impact
1'here~ is no financial impact-all travel and hotel expenses are being paid by Nh1DD and NHTSA..
