SUBJECT: Equipment Purchases
In the 1996 budget, I requested a new 12 foot wide front mounted turf mower
for an estimated cost of $31,950 and a one ton utility truck for an estimated
cost of $29,000.
I am now requesting Council approval to start the bid process for the mower
by advertising and accepting bids to be approved by the City Council at a
later date. By starting this process soon, we can be assured of having a
mower delivered before the mowing season starts.
I would also request Council authorization for the solicitation of quotations
for a one ton truck chassis. This purchase would also be approved by the City
Council at a future date. By purchasing the cab and chassis and box
separately, we can buy the components by quotes without having to take
formal bids.
The truck that I am recommending is a one ton, six passenger cab, fiat rack
utility bed with a power lift gate. We have a 1982 truck of similar design
that we find extremely useful for loading and hauling anything from manhole
castings to portable toilets. The six passenger cab is handy for transporting
workers to and from job sites or protecting tools, parts, or even grass seed
from the weather. This vehicle will be used mainly as a park service vehicle.
