Action Requested
Council approval to hire Donald Birdsall to fill a current vacancy for the position of Police Officer, with a
starting date of June 30, 2008, contingent upon successful completion of the medical exam.
Background/Discussion
The requested position was approved by the Council in 2007 for the 2008 budget year. The Police
Department conducted a series of interviews of five eligible internal candidates, all members of the Elk
River Police Reserve Unit. Donald Birdsall was unanimously selected as the top candidate. He is
currently POST licensable. He has successfully completed his background check and psychological
examination. His medical exam will be completed in the near future. Hiring is contingent on successful
completion of the medical exam.
Financial Impact
This is a budgeted position for 2008. The employee will start at the starting step based on the LELS
Patrol and Investigator's 2007-20081abor contract, ($20.33 per hour).
