1Ver MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: Bruce A. West, Fire Chief
DATE: June 16, 2008
SUBJECT: CenterPoint Energy Community Partnership Grant
Presentation
The Elk River Fire Department was notified of a successfu12008 Community Partnership
Grant for $2,500 to purchase safety and emergency response equipment. The Elk River Fire
Department submitted a giant fox two self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) air
cylinder class II fill stations. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and OSHA
have made significant changes in the guidelines for SCBA fill containment. The use of the
fill containment systems is to ensure safe refill operation of SCBA air cylinders after use at a
fire scene.
I have enclosed for your review the Class II fill station containment system that will be
purchased from North Shore Compressor for the use at Station #1 and Station #2. Our
successful grant of $2,500 will help off-set the overall equipment special project cost of
$6,990. The remaining funds will come from the sale of two used Thunder Beam sirens to
the City of St. Augusta and from safety funding.
Total Project Cost: $6,990
$(2,500) Center Point Energy Community Partnership Grant
$(4,000) sale of used sirens to the City of St. Augusta
$( 490) safety funds
The Elk River Fire Department would like to thank Center Point Energy and their
Community Partnership Grant program for the opportunity to receive $2,500 to be used
toward our class II fill containment project for both Station #1 and Station #2.
Scott Darsie from Center Point Energy will be in attendance at the June 16 City Council
meeting to present a check for $2,500 from the Community Partnership Grant program. I
will also be present at the meeting to answer any questions that the Mayor and City Council
may have.
