Approval of a formal ordinance that permits menu boards for non restaurant businesses.
Background/Discussion
Elk River Ford received approval to construct a car wash in 2006. The car wash was recently completed, and is
operational. As a way to advise car wash options to it's clients, car washes often use a sign similar to a menu board.
The ordinance, (Sec. 30-1024-c-(2)-g) permits a menu board per drive-up or walk-up lane of a drive in restaurant up to a
maximum of 32 square feet. [Emphasis added]. Because the business is not a restaurant, technically, a menu board
is not permitted. The applicant is requesting an ordinance amendment that would permit a menu board:
g. One on-premise menu board per drive-up or walk-up lane of a drive-in
~astat~a~business up to a maximum of 32 square feet each. Menu boards are
allowed to have a message on one side only and saw-ma~not contain an
advertising message.
The ordinance would allow a menu board at all businesses that utilize a drive up or walk up lane. Staff supports
the change.
