Request
Jim Schroer of Plant Place, Inc. is requesting a General Planning permit for a
temporary garden center at Sax Foods.
Location
19424 Evans Street NW, in the parking lot on the south side of Sax Foods.

Background
Plant Place Inc. is requesting a permit to place a temporary greenhouse in the
Sax Foods parking lot. Plant Place Inc. will be selling bedding plants and
nursery stock from April 15, 1996, to July 1, 1996. Proposed hours of operation
are 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
on Sunday. They will use a 20' x 80' temporary greenhouse with a 15' x 80'
adjacent area for nursery stock. That is 2,800 sq. ft. for the greenhouse
operation.

Plant Place operated the temporary greenhouse at this location last year. Prior
to that, they operated a temporary greenhouse in the County Market parking
lot. Staff has not received any complaints related to this temporary greenhouse
at either the Sax Foods or County Market locations. Staff does not anticipate
any problems with the temporary greenhouse; as it is out of major traffic areas
and does not take up more than 20 parking spaces.
Recommendation
Staff recommends approval of Plant Place, Inc.'s request for a temporary garden
center at Sax Foods with the following conditions:
1. If traffic becomes a problem around the site, the sales area should be
delineated with some type of barrier to restrict traffic.
2. The greenhouse must be kept in good condition throughout the time it is
erected.
3. Location of the greenhouse will be consistent with the site plan.
