SUBJECT: June 2008 Downtown Parking Study Results
As directed by the City Council, I am presenting in an informational format the results of the
June quarterly downtown parking study. The study was conducted on Tuesday, Wednesday
and Thursday, June 17 - 19. The following lists the attached figures and a brief description
of the information contained on them:
• Figure 1 A general layout of the 257 parking stalls surveyed on an hourly basis
(8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) for the three days of the study.
• Figures 2-4 Summaries of the parking occupancy rate broken down by 25%
increments. The results shown on these three figures are very
similar to the results from the first two quarterly studies conducted in
December 2007 and April 2008.
• Figures 5-7 Summary of the long-term parking (defined as the same car in a stall
for athree-hour period) fox the three days of the study. Again, the
results from the June study are very similar to the December 2007
and Apri12008 results.
• Figures 8&9 Graphic representation of the average occupancy rate and average
long-term parking rate for the three days of the study. Again very
similar to the previous results.
Unless the Council feels differently, staff would recommend these quarterly studies be
suspended until there is a significant change in the downtown area. If you have any
questions or comments regarding the study results, please contact me.
