Background/Discussion Minnesota Election Law, 204B. 21, Subdivision 2, requires election judges for precincts in a municipality to be appointed by the governing body of the municipality at least 25 days before the election at which the election judges will serve. Attached is the resolution with the judges listed that have been assigned to work the Primary Election to be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 and/or the General Election to be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2008. Financial Impact The judges will be paid an hourly wage of $8.50 and Co-Chairs receive $10.50 per hour. Money has been budgeted in the 2008 Election Budget. Attachments ^ Resolution Action Motion by Second by Vote Follow Up S:\Administration\Council RCA\Elections\2008 Appt Judges.doc RESOLUTION 08- A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ELK RIVER A RESOLUTION APPOINTING ELECTION JUDGES FOR THE ELECTIONS OF 2008 WHEREAS; pursuant to Minnesota Statutes 204B.21(2), the City Council shall officially approve the appointment of election judges; and WHEREAS; the City of Elk River City Council hereby adopts the judges listed on Exhibit A, hereto attached, as the official judges for the September 9 State Primary, and the November 4, 2008 General Election, with the understanding that changes maybe necessary to the appointments in order to fill vacancies and meet party splits. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Elk River, Minnesota, that the names listed on Exhibit A, hereto attached, are the Official Election Judges for the City of Elk River, State Primary on September 9 and the General Election on November 4, 2008, and the City Council further authorizes the City Clerk to appoint additional judges if and where needed.
