MEMORANDUM
TO: Housing & Redevelopment Authority L,
FROM: Heidi Steinmetz, Assistant Director of Economic Development ~ l
DATE: August I , 2005
SUBJECT: Consider Contribution Toward Relocation of Flag Pole
Attachment
• Quote from Electro Mechanical Contracting, Inc. to relocate flag pole
Background
Following the HRA's review and comments, the Council approved the transfer of the flag pole to
the school district at its June 6``' meeting. At its June 6`'' meeting the HRA indicated a willingness to
consider contributing toward the cost of relocating the flag pole in order to keep it in the downtown
area.
Issue
The attached quote in the amount of $8,335 was recently received from Electro Mechanical
Contracting, Inc. for the relocation of the flag pole to the edge of the school district and King
Avenue parking lot property. The school district will be responsible for ongoing maintenance of the
flag and pole. The school district will also be responsible for installing lighting for the flag.
The flag pole will not be relocated from the Jackson Square property until the city has completed
closing on the transfer of the Jackson property to MetroPlains. The closing is anticipated to occur
by the end of August upon MetroPlains completing the contingencies outlined in the Development
Agreement.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the HRA consider contributing toward the relocation of the flag pole in the
amount of $8,335.
