Authorization to Fill Vacant Full-Time Custodial Position With Ter Maurer, Public Works Director
One Part-Time Position and a Contract Cleaning Company Reviewed by
Tim Simon Finance Director
Action Requested
Due to the recent sudden resignation of fulltime custodian Fran Wallace, staff is requesting. Council
approval to replace this position with a contract cleaning company, plus one part-time employee.
Background/Discussion
Fran's primary duties included cleaning the library, along with numerous extra cleaning duties in all our
facilities, such as carpet cleaning, windows, floor waxing, and light maintenance. Staff agrees the best way
to fill this position would be to use contract cleaning for the library and to add one part-time employee to
help with cleaning extras, light maintenance, and filling in fox staff vacations and sick leaves.
Staff has reviewed three quotes for cleaning services. Carlson Building Services, Inc. came in the lowest at
the amount of $ 20,128.00 per year. Carlson is currently contracted by the City of Elk River to clean other
facilities.
Financial Impact
This will be funded from budgeted funds for Fran Wallace's position and will result in an actual budget
savings of $10,892.00 per year.
