Consider Purchase of Office Furniture
for Police Department
A few months ago, the City Council authorized some promotions within the
Police Department. These promotions included an additional sergeant and
two additional corporals. In order to improve the work environment for these
promoted employees, some additional office furniture is needed. In general,
the two corporals are moving from the large patrol work area into a smaller
office that will be shared, and a sergeant is being relocated to a previously
vacant office. The corporals are not on duty at the same time so, while they
will be sharing the same work environment, we won't have four people (3
corporals and i sergeant) in one office at one time.
The Council is requested to approve the expenditure of approximately $5,800
for office furniture to accommodate the work environment for the corporals
and sergeants. This office furniture is under the state contract and this
proposal is requested by the chief and his sergeants. The source of funds for
this expenditure will be the 1996 Police Department budget. However, this
expenditure was not scheduled when the budget was approved and it may be
necessary to use the City Hall/Government Buildings reserve fund, but we
can make this final determination of a funding later in the year.
Action Requested
The City Council is requested to authorize the expenditure of $5,768.25 to
Facility Systems for office furniture.
