The Police Department is requesting Council approval to send Detective Eric Balabon to a training
course in Seattle, Washington October 23-24, 2008.
Background/Discussion
The course, entitled "Steps to Respect Facilitator Training", is through a group called Committee for
Children, based in Seattle and is a program dealing with the subject of "bullying". This curriculum has
been fully studied by the curriculum specialists at ISD 728, who will also be sending staff to this training
session. The intent is to have police officers and teachers co-teach the course to elementary and middle
school children within the district.
Financial Impact
ISD 728 has agreed to fund the air fare and hotel accommodations for Detective Balabon to attend. The
impact on the City will be the tuition of $379.00, meals, and the officer's wage; all of which are approved
budgeted items.
