SUBJECT: City Jackets
INTRODUCTION
Several months ago, Councilmember Dietz suggested that the city clerk see if
employees would be interested in purchasing city jackets.
BACKGROUND
I have contacted two vendors who have supplied prices for two styles of
jackets. One is a heavier falllwinter jacket and the other is a lighter spring
. jacket. The vendors also sent samples of city logos and lettering for the
jackets. The cost between the two vendors was very close; about $2 - $3
difference. The heavier jacket cost approximately $52.00 and the lighter
jacket cost approximately $33.00 which includes the lettering and elk logo.
A survey was taken to determine whether employees were interested in
purchasing a city jacket. The city received 16 responses. The results are as
follows:

CONCLUSION
• The number of jackets ordered does not affect the price. Therefore, jackets
could be ordered for the few employees that are interested. The issue,
however, seems to be paying far the jackets. Employees maybe mare
interested if the city would supplement the cost of the jackets. One vendor
indicated that he sells jackets to other cities and it is not uncommon for a city
to supplement the cost. One city in particular picks up the cost of the logo
and lettering if a city employee purchases a jacket ($6.75 - $8.00).
ACTION REQUESTED
This is a follow up to a request made by a councilmember. No action is
required by the council unless the council authorizes the city to supplement
the cost of employee jackets. If this is the case, it should be done by council
motion.
